Designing My Kitchen on a Budget : Hardware

I’m giving my kitchen a complete remodel with a $6,500 budget.

In my last blog, I shared how I painted my kitchen cabinets all by myself, in addition to a few other budget-friendly kitchen tips. Today, I’ll be sharing what hardware I’m using, and why choosing this type of hardware could save you money.

I should preface this by stating there are two things worth splurging on in the kitchen, and that is a good faucet and countertops if you can swing it. My faucet was needed in my case, as the one that came with the house was completely out of commission. The original kitchen counters were also eroding and had mold forming under them. Needless to say, both items had to go. My countertops plus the labor to have them installed totaled $1,800.

Now I’ve done my fair share of research, and hardware can really break the bank if you aren’t careful with choosing. I’ve discovered that knobs will almost always be more cost-effective than pulls, so I’ll be going the knob-route for this kitchen.

I’d always suggest keeping the original knobs if you can salvage them, but in my case, there were some that were missing, and some that were mis-matched. My OCD would not allow me to keep the originals, so I opted for these ceramic knobs .

Here’s a fun little story: my husband always buys me ceramic knobs with floral art because he likes that I can keep them and use them throughout the house instead having to throw them away (which would be the case for bouquets of flowers). I still get real flowers every-now-and-again, but I quite enjoy the florals knobs.

I’m falling more in love with this kitchen everyday, and I cannot wait to share the next update with you - that’ll be wall-architecture!
